Casino Night at Danny Lang

Vegas style gambling’ rolls into the Danny Lang Event Center at 5:30 p.m. May 9, in support of Umpqua Community College athletics.

With all the evening’s proceeds going to the athletic department, it stands as the largest fundraising event of the year for UCC athletics.

The evening will consist of dinner provided by Umpqua’s culinary department, an auction and casino style gambling. A variety of items ranging from golf packages, hotel stays, to free tax consulting will be auctioned to the highest bidder.

“Casino Night is always a lot of work, but it’s worth it,” Athletics Director Cheryl Yoder said. “It’s for our athletes. This helps keep our programs running. If we could ever generate enough money we would like to do scholarships for our athletes because they are always in need of financial assistance.”

Last year’s Casino Night proceeds contributed to facility upgrades in the UCC gymnasium.

“In the past we put a lot of money towards facility upgrades,” Yoder said. “Our scoreboard and our scorer’s table with the help of Casino Night, ASUCC and facilities (department) were able to be purchased because of these three groups.”

Surf Pro, Hop Valley and Big Foot Beverage are sponsoring the evening’s festivities that will feature craps, roulette and black jack tables, along with Texas Hold ‘em.

“Last year it was so much fun, Everyone said that we had to do this again next year,’” Yoder said.

This year, UCC campus celebrities are providing a new twist to the event auction.

“We will be having a desert auction this year,” Yoder said. “Each table will have the opportunity to bid for deserts. A lot of our famous people on campus are donating the deserts. Jason Aase is famous for his pies, so he is donating two of them. President Joe Olson’s wife is baking a cake, she is an amazing cook. Roxanne Kelley is donating as well. It’s going to be fun and something different.”

The cost for the Riverhawk Casino Night is $45 per person or $400 for a table of 10. Tickets will be available at the door the evening of the event in the Danny Lang Event Center on Umpqua’s main campus. They can also be purchased online at tickets.umpqua.edu.  The evening’s festivities will kick-off May 9, at 5:30 p.m.
